So Valentine’s Day is almost upon us. This year, the romance is scheduled for a Tuesday – so why not make a long weekend out of the celebrations? And what is more romantic than an eco-retreat?

Read on for four wonderful eco-friendly retreats sure to impress.

Bonus eco-friendly gift guide waiting for you at the end of this post!

West Coasters:

Beyonderup Falls Adult Country Escape

This place is heavenly. Separate cabins. Spa on the deck. Local wines and cheeses on arrival. This retreat has everything a couple could want. Beyonderup Falls is located in lush forest with a waterfall in walking distance, and as a result is quiet and quaint. Order a breakfast basket to be delivered to your doorstep; fresh eggs from the resident chickens, home-baked bread and locally produced jams make a great start to the day. Wallabies are common and expect a visit from plenty of local bird life. The property has a couple of quaint country towns nearby so if you feel the need to get out, you can.

You can book here.

With bush view like this, a getaway in south-western WA is pure bliss.

Karijini Eco Retreat

One of my all time greatest bucket lists items would be to spend a weekend at the Karijini Eco Retreat. They have a great mix of eco tents and cabins with shared dining areas. Owned by the local Niapiali, Bunjima and Innawonga Aboriginal people of the Pilbara region, not only is this property environmentally responsible, it also ensures that;

the needs of the local people are respected!

I grew up in this region of Western Australia and so it holds a special place in my heart. Knowing how spectacular this unique part of the world is means I cannot recommend this stay enough.

You can find out more here.

I don’t know if I’ve ever found anything more beautiful than a Pilbara sunrise.

East Coasters:

Wongari Eco Retreat

For those of you in or around Queensland, Wongari is a not-to-be-missed eco retreat. Situated in the picturesque Lamington National Park, south-west of the Gold Coast, the retreat focuses on getting back to nature as well as finding a little serenity. Cabins feature locally made toiletries, a self contained kitchen plus a small library so there is no need to leave. Also on offer; walking, swimming and even a massage. Just driving through the SE QLD national parks is spectacular.

Stone Stream B&B

Situated 50kms from Coffs Harbour on the NSW North Coast another dream destination is Stone Stream B&B. The whole site is carbon nautral, featuring; solar and wind energy, rainwater collection and treatment and an eco loo. The hosts also welcome guests to enjoy the beautiful natural assets of the region with their website stating that;

Simply discovering & booking Stone Stream is, in itself, technically deemed an “Act of Romance”

To find out more about what’s on offer at Stone Stream, head to their website.

With Coffs Harbour looking this good, why not stay nearby in your own retreat?

Whether you choose to visit these eco-retreats during February or not, I’d definitely add them to your ‘must-do’ list. An eco-retreat not only lets you disconnect and unplug from the rigors of life, but it also allows time to enjoy the natural world. Scientific studies have shown that time in nature improves depression, obesity, stress and the risk of stroke and type II diabetes. How about treating yourself to some time out and much needed rest?

Now for a bonus to you my loyal readers. Read on for some eco-friendly Valentine’s Day gift ideas.
